Transforming Women’s Health: Dr. Corey Smith of Bladder & Bowel Institute
Dr. Corey Smith has been a pillar in women’s health in the North Central Arkansas community. Specializing in urinary and fecal incontinence and leveraging his expertise in robotic laparoscopic gynecological surgeries, Dr. Smith has profoundly transformed the lives of thousands of women.
Despite being based in a smaller community, Dr. Smith has continually strived to ensure his patients have access to the most innovative, advanced treatments available. His primary objective is to help women regain control of their bodies and enhance their quality of life.
Education and Training
Dr. Smith completed his undergraduate work at the University of Mississippi before heading to the beautiful island of Grenada, West Indies, to attend St. George’s University School of Medicine, where he earned an MD/MPH dual degree. Following his time at St. George’s, he completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Drexel University/Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a program renowned for its high-quality training and challenging caseload. Dr. Smith completed his clinical rotations at several prestigious hospitals in New York City, including Mount Vernon Hospital, Lincoln Hospital, Queens Hospital Center, and Coney Island Hospital.
After completing his residency, he was attracted to various opportunities around the country, but the allure of serving the North Central Arkansas community was compelling, so he made the commitment to fill a critical gap in local healthcare services.
The Most Rewarding Part of His Career
Reflecting on his career, Dr. Smith says, “The real joy in practicing medicine for me lies in being able to bring comprehensive, sophisticated care to a place where it’s deeply needed. To be able to impact women’s lives positively, to see their relief, and to help them regain their confidence is incredibly fulfilling.”
Dr. Smith firmly believes in cultivating genuine relationships with his patients. “True healing,” he often says, “comes from a blend of medical expertise and genuine compassion. It’s not enough to have one without the other.”
Dr. Smith Has Been on the Cutting Edge of Women’s Healthcare
During his career, Dr. Smith has made significant strides in several areas of gynecological healthcare:
Progressive Incontinence Management: “Previously, medication was our primary tool for treating overactive bladder and incontinence,” Dr. Smith recalls. “However, the side effects and ineffectiveness of this approach for many patients led to the exploration of more successful, minimally invasive solutions. My preferred method of treatment is InterStim, an FDA approved therapy that is effective for 80% of my patients.”
